Feeling stressed? Of course you are. You have too much on your plate, deadlines are looming, and people are counting on you. You are under a lot of pressure—so much that at times, you suspect the quality of your work suffers for it. This is life in the modern workplace.

8 Ways to Overcome Stress

1) One thing at a time. This is the simplest and best way to start reducing your stress, and you can start today. Right now. Focus as much as possible on doing one thing at a time. Clear your desk of distractions. Pick something to work on. Need to write a report? Do only that. Remove distractions such as phones and email notifications while you’re working on that report. If you’re going to do email, do only that. This takes practice, and you’ll get urges to do other things. Just keep practicing and you’ll get better at it.

2)Simplify your schedule. A hectic schedule is a major cause of high stress. Simplify by reducing the number of commitments in your life to just the essential ones. Learn to say no to the rest — and slowly get out of commitments that aren’t beneficial to you. Schedule only a few important things each day, and put space between them. Get out of meetings when they aren’t absolutely essential. Leave room for down time and fun.

3) Get moving. Do something each day to be active — walk, hike, play a sport, go for a run, do yoga. It doesn’t have to be grueling to reduce stress. Just move. Have fun doing it.

4)Develop one healthy habit this month. Other than getting active, improving your health overall will help with the stress. But do it one habit at a time. Eat fruits and veggies for snacks. Floss every day. Quit smoking. Cook something healthy for dinner. Drink water instead of soda. One habit at a time.

5) Do something calming. What do you enjoy that calms you down? For many people, it can be the “get moving” activity discussed above. But it could also be taking a nap, or a bath, or reading, or having sex (which can also be considered a “get moving” activity if you do it for longer than 5 minutes). Other people are calmed by housework or yard work. Some people like to meditate, or take a nature walk. Find your calming activity and try to do it each day.

6)Have a blast! Have fun each day, even if it’s just for a few minutes.

7)Get creative. Throwing yourself into a creative activity is another great way to de-stress and to prevent stress. I like writing, but others like to paint or play music or sketch or make pottery or do interior design or build things.

8)Be early. Try to leave earlier by getting ready earlier, or by scheduling more space between events. Things always take longer than normal, so schedule some buffer time: extra time to get ready, to commute, to do errands before you need to be somewhere, to attend a meeting before another scheduled appointment. If you get somewhere early, it’s good to have some reading material.

When stress continues over a sustained period of time it can have devastating results. Recognizing the value of eliminating stress doesn’t do us much good if we don’t have the right skills to actually do it. So, is there a way to lessen the effects of stressful situations and to eliminate the harmful cumulative effects that are interfering with our ability to create the life we really want?

ROYAL REGALIA

While touring the rich sultanate of Brunei, one can come across a number of cultural centers, royal buildings and historical sites that speak of architectural magnificence and the traditional heritage of the country. One of the most culturally significant places is the Royal Regalia Museum. Located at the heart of the capital this museum was constructed in 1992 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of His Majesty of Brunei.

Containing a vast and fascinating collection of items of Brunei royal dynasty, the Royal Regalia Museum is a must visit. The Royal Regalia Museum of Brunei houses a large number of articles related to the sultan and the royal family. The museum displays the royal chariot, the jeweled crowns of the sultans that are used during the ceremony of coronation, a replica of the sultan's throne, the armory in gold and silver etc.

Besides the royal collection, an exhibition is held at the Royal Regalia Museum in Brunei. This exhibition gives a full representation of the history of Brunei's constitution. Thus along with getting a visual treat one also gets to learn about the government of the Brunei. The Royal Regalia Museum therefore reflects the royal, historical, cultural and the political aspects of the country of Brunei.

Entrance to the museum is, quite enticingly free of charge. Inside, all belongings, including cameras must be left at the counter in order to enter and enjoy the chronology of the Sultan's life. There are replicas of His throne, various crowns, gowns, weapons and splendid examples of tributes offered to the Sultan. Gifts of elaborate crystal, jade, ivory, and silver, to name a few, serve to remind visitors of the Sultan's inscrutable wealth.

BUBUNGAN DUA BELAS GALLERY

The historic building "Bubungan Dua Belas" is now a public and tourist attraction after it was converted into a building with exhibitions of the history of relations between Brunei Darussalam and United Kingdom dating back to the 19th Century.

It was the home of British Residents from 1907 to 1941 and from 1946 to 1959.

In the building, visitors can see galleries that exhibit the history of cooperations and closer ties between both countries, maps and charts of Brunei, MoU signing, visits from other countries, socio-economy in the past and chart documents of Brunei Darussalam.

Based on the earliest photographs of the building taken in 1907 and 1914, at a distance it looked much as it does now from the originality of the building.

After Brunei's Independence in 1984, the building was handed over to the Government of Brunei and became the office of the culture section, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports. Some major internal renovations were made to the building in order to suit to its new functions.

In recognition of the building's historical and architectural significance, on April 27, 1998, the Government of Brunei Darussalam has approved a joint project with the United Kingdom to restore Bubungan Dua Belas.

It is now being used for an exhibition celebrating the relationship of Brunei Darussalam with the United Kingdom and it was officially opened by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on September 19, 1998.
